What's Happening at the Fair?

Last year it was brought to my attention that the poultry cages were becoming a hazard, with more than one child cutting their hand while tending to their animal. I’m delighted to announce that the fair has just received delivery of forty new poultry cages! Purchased via a grant through the Wahkiakum Community Foundation and the Bradwood Landing Fund, the new pens will make a huge difference for both the exhibitors and birds.

Get your hands on this summer's bargain and buy your season pass today! A steal at $6, you can purchase a pass through one of our princesses, at Cathlamet Pharmacy, the Rosburg Store or the fair office.

The fair board and I wish to say a huge thank you to Under Sheriff Jon Dearmore as once again he has gone well beyond the call of duty and has generously stepped forward to volunteer as the fair security. Thank you Jon for your continued support!

Calling all gardeners! We need plants, flowers, seeds and anything else you are willing to donate. We’ve created a lot of new flower beds this year and are looking for volunteers to help us plant and donate flowers. We’ll also be constructing new animal structures so if you have any spare building materials lying around, please keep the fair in mind.

One of the comments we received last year was that the entry deadlines were unclear so to help clarify any confusion I’ve listed this year’s fair entry deadlines below:

August 3– 4-H Educational Posters are due at the WSU Extension office by 4 p.m.

August 17– All entries for the following categories: Crafts & Hobbies, Antiques & Collections, Art & Photography, Food Preservation, Needle Craft, Quilting & Sewing, Wine & Beer and Open Educational Posters. Please ensure your entry is received by 4 p.m. at the fair office.

August 18- All entries for the following categories: Baked Goods, Candies & Cakes, Floral and Forage, Grains Fruits and Vegetables. Please ensure your entry is received by 4 p.m. at the fair office.

August 19 – All animals are due to the barns from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Don’t forget that this year we’ll also be accepting emailed entries. Just scan your entry cards and email the jpegs to wahkiakumfair@centurytel.net. We’ll even send you a confirmation email so you can check all your details are correct.

If you don’t remember your exhibitor number or if this is your first time showing at the fair, you can call the office (360 795 3480) or register for your exhibitor number when you drop off your entries.

The fair office is open Monday / Wednesday / Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you’d like to become involved with the fair or have an idea on how the fair can be improved, please contact us. You can call, stop in or send an email (360 795 3480 / wahkiakumfair@centurytel.net).
