What are Master Gardeners?

March 14, 2013

Master Gardeners are a small group of dedicated volunteers trained under the auspices of Washington State University. To meet the requirements to qualify as a master gardener, participants must complete the WSU training and then provide community service in the area of home gardening.

Our goal is to assist home gardeners in their efforts to achieve the pride and satisfaction of growing beautiful flowers and healthful tasty vegetables and fruits.

Master Gardeners have been available at the Plant and Insect booth at the local Two Islands Farm Market from May through September. Gardening questions can be answered there. Plant problem samples and insects can be brought in for identification. Messages can be left at the Extension Office and a master gardener will respond within a few days. Now that the Community Garden is up and running in Erickson Park, someone will be on site during the week for consultation and suggestions during gardening season.

The WSU Wahkiakum County Extension office is located in Cathlamet on River Street, Phone:360-795-3278.
