Lady Pirates crunch Mules in doubleheader

The Wahkiakum Lady Mules softball team faced the Adna Pirates last Thursday at home. It is a growing year for the young team, and they suffered two tough losses in the double header.

During the second inning of the first game, Tori Wegdahl hit a double, and Madison LaBerge hit a single, bringing Wegdahl home. They lost 17-1.

“We had great effort from our left fielder, Madison LaBerge,” said Coach Cindy Fudge. “Sami Boyce was also a standout behind the plate. It was tough duty with young pitching but she put her nose to the grindstone and really shows a lot of heart back there.”

The second game didn’t bring any relief. Sam Boyce hit a triple and Morgan Elliot brought her home with a sacrifice fly, but the Mules lost 25-2.

“The road didn’t get any easier, but as always there is something to cheer about in every game,” said Fudge. “Marissa Longtain had an amazing diving catch on the fence…the outfield consisting of Marissa Washington, Madison LaBerge, Shanna Havens and Jem Dyer really showed a lot of hustle.”

The Mules next game is at Pe Ell on Thursday, April 11.
