What's Happening on Main Street

Cathlamet is going to be seeing a new business next door to the Eagle very soon--Cysciborg Holdings.

Jerald Meiers and his wife Ladonna moved to Cathlamet last September from Bakken, North Dakota. With him comes “Steampunk Art” which is a unique, creative movement that has been growing in popularity using anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art.

Meiers uses a polyurethane method that forms the outer coat of his what he calls “strange art.” He gathers items from the thrift stores and places like Wright’s Hardware Store and combines them to make “steampunkosaurus singers” and other familiar/unfamiliar creations. The familiar being that his art is supposed to invoke memories because you can see where some of the items have been or come from, and the unfamiliar because you may not understand the creations at all.

Meiers is a Vietnam vet and retired police officer. The business will also display artwork, handmade jewelry, and large format posters created by some of his disabled friends. Meiers will open after he completes some preparation work and set up displays. Store hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
