Keep fighting the pressures from Olympia

To The Eagle:

I miss the people, culture and geography of Wahkiakum County. Our time living in Rosburg and getting to know and like the people of the county was wonderful. We moved to Kalama to be closer to children, a common goal of our generation it seems. But I have a heartfelt message for you all: whatever you do, keep fighting the pressures from Olympia, it’s your only salvation to preserve what you have. The federal and state government programs, agencies and the powers and money they flaunt in your face are akin to drugs, with absolute addiction and withdrawal results.

Wahkiakum County is so unique you should pinch yourself to ensure it’s real. You still have a choice: to succumb or not to the incessant push by Olympia and Washington DC to become a full-fledged member of their bigger picture club by accepting their demanded wisdom regarding social justice (whatever that is), targeted housing, restricted land use, mass transportation, ecological malfeasance and low-standards education.

As a very small county with independent residents you can and should do so much better by battling this tremendous adversary in a way only a small group of organized people can: by shaming them, by going public as often as possible, by calling them out every single time, and by refusing to obey and letting the chips fall where they might. They will not crush a solid group of good people when push comes to shove because after all, they are on record as not allowing bullies to win. And you are not the bullies. Go for it and demand those you elect actively join you in this mission. I expect to visit often and of course still communicate with many friends and acquaintances who are among you, so best of luck. You don’t need it, just high resolve. Don’t let your representatives, commissioners or departments allow you to be assimilated into the morass of top-down, remote-controlled government.
