Cothren, Prestegard are primary victors

August 4, 2016

Voters in Wahkiakum County and across the state on Tuesday winnowed down the candidates for races on the November general election ballot.

In Wahkiakum County’s three person race for county commissioner, District 2, incumbent Dan Cothren led the voting in the district’s precincts with 183 votes; Bob Jungers finished second with 73, and Matt Barnhill trailed with 47. Cothren and Jungers face off in the general election.

In the race for the other county commission seat on the ballot, challenger Greg Prestegard led incumbent Mike Backman 177-123 in the District 1 voting. Both candidates will be on the general election ballot.

All other races were district, state wide or federal election. The top two candidates advance to the general election, no matter party affiliation.

Results are listed below. In some regional, state or national races where Wahkiakum votes didn’t match the wider vote, three or more totals are given.
