Lady Mules claim league title

Sophomore Ellie Leitz grabs a rebound and puts it back up in the Mules' win over Toutle Lake on Saturday.

On Tuesday, the Lady Mules beat Kalama for a second time this season and were moved to third place in the WIAA RPI behind the Chinooks. The Lady Mules remain the only undefeated 2B team in the state with 19 wins, including three this week.

Last Thursday, the Lady Mules beat Toledo at home, 76-37.

"I was really happy with their performance tonight," Coach Rob Garrett said. "I thought they worked hard the entire game and pushed the pace."

Peyton Souvenir led the team with 29 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists, six steals, and one block. Savannah Burdick scored 11 points. Sydney Hansen added 10 points. Maddy Mace had eight points. Macie Elliott had six points and six rebounds. Jansi Merz added four points. Ellie Leitz and Mckensi Fluckiger scored three points apiece. Leitz also pulled down six boards. Paige Mace scored two points.

On Saturday, four of the Lady Mules went into double digits to beat Toutle Lake at home, 75-24.

Souvenir had 20 points and 20 rebounds. She also had eight assists. Elliott added 17 points. Burdick scored 13 points. M. Mace had 10 points. Leitz had six points. Hansen added four points. P. Mace had three points. Charlie Ashe added two points.

This Tuesday, the Lady Mules beat the Chinooks in Kalama, 56-53.

Souvenir scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds. Burdick had 15 points. Charlie Ashe added seven. Elliott scored five points. M. Mace had three points. Hansen and Leitz added two points each.

The team plays their final regular season game in Mossyrock today (Thursday). Because the Lady Mules have solidified first place in the Central 2B league, they will likely face the Central #9 team at home at 7 p.m. on the first day of District play, February 6.
