Read history and stand up for democracy

To The Eagle:

The Middle East, is once again in a war. Religious, territorial or both. The Ottoman Empire, which ruled much of the Middle East for centuries, collapsed. The empire was divided into smaller territories (which did not take ethnicities into consideration) and mandates, to be administered by European powers, including Britain and France. This marked the beginning of a period of colonialism and foreign intervention in the Middle East that continues to this day.

I truly wish more people would study history! It is very important to try and understand today's problems. How did Hitler almost take over all of Europe? The same way Putin is now trying to re-establish the Soviet Union. Many Americans are becoming tired of helping Ukraine. Will we be consumed by the Middle East? Will we pull our support for democracy?

Look at the country Putin invaded, while most Georgians favor closer ties with the West, the government that is backed by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili is undermining these efforts in favor of Moscow. The Russian military established control over Chechnya in late April 2000. Belarus has provided its ally Russia with a major strategic advantage in that country’s war against Ukraine, although it has not been drawn into the fighting directly thus far. There are no diplomatic or bilateral relations between Russia and Ukraine. The two states have been at war since Russia invaded the Crimean peninsula in February 2014, and Russian-controlled armed groups seized Donbas government buildings in May 2014 These countries are more or less influenced by Putin’s Russia. Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and more…

Stand for democracy, they are counting on us to stand up against the bully.
