Reward offered in Rosburg Store robbery

November 24, 2011

Well, the temperatures have shown us that winter is just about here, along with the high winds last week and snow over the weekend. Our walnut tree still had all of its leaves on Saturday, but after the freeze Saturday night and the wind, it was completely bare of leaves by Sunday afternoon. It almost looked like it was raining leaves.

I’m sure everyone is getting ready for a big holiday weekend with family and friends, so let’s remember to be safe in our travels.

News from Naselle:

No school for the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District today (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday) due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Classes will resume their regular schedules on Monday.

Sports for the coming week include: Wednesday, -high school boy’s basketball with Ilwaco in Naselle at 5:45 p.m. and middle school girl’s basketball at South Bend at 5:45 p.m.

All libraries in the Timberland Regional Library District will be closed today and tomorrow for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Other news from the Westend:

I had a note from Leslie Bolton who manages the Rosburg Store and she wanted me to let the community know how much she and her family appreciate the community’s support of the store since its reopening last year and especially since the robbery on October 22. Due to the robbery and theft of a computer, Leslie is busy updating accounts at the store and asks for your patience. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to see her at the store.

A reward is being posted of $500 leading to the arrest and conviction of the participants in the robbery of the store. If anyone remembers seeing a car in the carport or seeing anything that might be important on that night or the nights leading up to 3:30 a.m. on October 22, please contact the sheriff’s office or Leslie at the store.

Leslie says, "Thank you again to the community for your current and continued support. I look forward to serving this wonderful community for many more years.”

Welcome home Penny Gregory after a two week stay on the beach in Maui. It looks like you had a wonderful relaxing time judging from the tan. It’s good to have you back again.

My uncle and aunt, David and Claudine Hammonds of Grays River are getting ready to head south for a week long visit with her sister, Clara York of Gustine, Calif., and will also get to spend time with their brother and sister in law, Jim and Pat Harvey from Maine. It has been several years since the siblings have seen each other. It should be a nice holiday season for everyone, with this gift of time together.

The Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch that meets at Rosburg Hall will feast on barbecued chicken, potato salad, fruit salad and dessert on the 30. The December 7 menu will include ham and scalloped spuds, veggies, hot rolls and dessert.

Happy Birthday to the following: Jack Smith, Bob Caetano, Ciara Sandell, Colleen Smith, Dustin Dunham, Darrell Fields, Steve Leamy, Jeff Fleming, Jamie Bighill, Bob Miller, Carol Wilson, Carson Engelson, Kristi Leeland, Brian Nikolas, John K. Wirkkala, Jeff Rose, Judah Corbin, Kennedy Penttila, Kenny Saari and Hannah Liberatore.

A special belated happy birthday to a relative newcomer and good friend, Linda Ramsay here in Grays River. She and her husband, Steve have been here just a few years but are certainly making a place for themselves here in the community, and their presence is certainly appreciated. I hope your day was awesome.

Happy Anniversary wishes go out to Steve and Audrey Ullakko, John and Roxanne Didion and Russell and Sirkka Wirkkala. Wishing you many more.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving Day celebration. We will hopefully be headed to Redmond, Ore. to be with at least five of our kids and most of our grandkids, barring any weather complications. Some of them will be coming from California, and who knows how the passes will be.
