The Comet Booster Club will meet on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Comet Booster Club calendars for 2013 are available at Okie’s in Naselle and the Rosburg Store in Rosburg. The price is still $4.00. Check out who is having a birthday or an anniversary and help the Booster Club and our kids by purchasing one.

Don’t forget the annual Finnish American Folk Festival Concert and Tour of Homes will be held this Sunday with the concert beginning at one p.m. in the Historic Deep River Pioneer Lutheran Church. It features the Naselle Kanteles, soloists Lisa Bighill and Karen Nelson, Cooley/Wolfe Singers & Ringers, and the Finn-Am Choir. Anna Ehrlund will tell the history of the historic church, and the concert will close with traditional Christmas Carols.

After the concert, enjoy the tour of three local homes which will be open from two to five p.m. Tickets and maps will be available at the concert, Hair Villa in Naselle, FinnWare in Astoria, Radio Shack in Seaview, or any of the featured homes for $5 each, and will benefit the Finn-Am Fest. Signs and balloons will mark the homes on the tour.

Following the Home Tour, the Naselle Lutheran Church Soup Supper will be served by the Priscilla Circle at the church from four to six p.m.

Other news from the Westend: The free movie night at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park continues every Friday evening at seven p.m. It features wonderful old movies, good company, concessions and just a nice evening fare. The movie is shown in the activity room and is sponsored by the Grays River Valley Library. Posters are up in various areas giving the name of the movie or you can call 465-2310 to find out more.

The Grays River Valley Library/Community Computer Center is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from one to five p.m. and features lots of books, movies, and audio books for all ages. We even have large print books.

Looking for a place to do some sewing? Check out the sewing room at Johnson Park, bring your own project, learn how to sew, quilt, mend, or whatever. The sewing room is open on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. For more information call Arlene Stefan at 465-2919.

Other activities ongoing at the Center include yoga, aerobics, art group, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and a pinochle card group. Check the calendar for days and times or call the library/computer center during open hours at 465-2310.

Sponsorships are available at Johnson Park for $65.00 (for a family) or $45.00 (single person) per year. That fee entitles you to the exercise room and all its equipment and the gym (for a friendly game of basketball). With a sponsorship, you will receive the door codes to the various areas in the building.

There is something going on at Johnson Park almost every day of the week. Calendars are posted at each end of the building and updated regularly. If you would like to reserve the grounds or a part of the building for a special occasion, please call our events coordinator, Judy Durrah, to reserve the date.

Volunteers are always needed at the Grays River Valley Center so if you have a few hours you would like to spend helping out please contact me (Trudy) or Penny Gregory. You can even drop in during open hours and we can discuss our volunteer needs with you in person.

Senior lunches are served three days a week at the Rosburg Hall in Rosburg. Tuesday and Thursday meals are sponsored by CAP. The Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets on Wednesday and lunches are prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew.

Happy Birthday to the following celebrants this week: Nancy McGuire, Jeremy Ray, Larry Dunn, Todd Blanchard, John Footh, David Magnuson, Glen Goddard, Kim Cooper, Sara Maki, Rod Ammer, Dean Helvey, Debbie Klinger, Benjamin Nikolas, Jim Strange, Deeanna McCullough, Rich Bennett, Noah Mattson, Francy Penttila, Rex Shelter, Drew Macy, Hannah Wirkkala, Jim Eastham, Trevin Leeland and Wally Wirkkala.   I missed the chance to wish a very special friend happy birthday, so happy belated birthday to Poul Toftemark. I know he had a nice celebration with his beautiful wife (probably his favorite gift of all), now that she is home for a while from the Philippines. Wishing you many more, Poul, and thank you for being such a good friend.

A very happy anniversary to Howard and Arlene Nelson.

It’s still raining, and we still have a lake across our driveway, but so far we are able to drive out and back in.
