Happy Spring, everyone! It seems that all the flowers are beginning to bloom at once. Daffodils are everywhere. I actually found my first trillium yesterday.

News from Naselle:

The sports lineup for the week for the Naselle Comets is as follows: Thursday, high school track meet in Naselle at 4 p.m.

Students will be on Spring Break beginning April 1 and will return to classes on April 8. The school grounds will be closed on April 3 and 4.

Kids, grab your Easter baskets and head to the Naselle High School football field on Saturday at 11 a.m. sharp. ESA Alpha Theta’s annual Easter egg hunt will take place at that time, rain or shine. Toddlers and kids through third grade are invited to hunt eggs, and don’t forget to bring your basket. Visit with the Easter Bunny and win lots of prizes. For more information please call 484-3844.

The Congregational United Church of Christ, located at 14 Parpala Road in Naselle, will hold a special service on Easter Sunday. Breakfast will be served at 10:30 a.m. followed by the church service at 11:30 a.m. Coffee will be served after the service. Everyone is welcome.

Free Friday night movies continue at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. Come for great movies and good fun. This week’s movie is approved for family viewing for those of you that enjoy Alfred Hitchcock movies. Bring the family, sit down for a great evening of viewing, and grab a bag of buttered popcorn or a candy bar and a soda.

Got an Ipad? Join in with a few other owners and learn what they know, and share what you know. The IPUG (Ipad users group) meets on the first and fourth Fridays of each month in the Grays River Valley Library at Johnson Park at 1 p.m.

It looks like the Helping Hand Food Bank is interested in bringing a food bank to the Rosburg area and would like some input on how many folks would be interested in that happening. It would be set up at Johnson Park, and in order for it to move forward, we would need a couple of people to step up and handle the program. The Johnson Park Advisory Board members are stretched pretty thin as far as giving more volunteer hours, so if you are interested in working with Helping Hand on this project, please call Penny Gregory or me.

The Grays River Valley Center is working on their next fundraising event. They will be hosting a bake/book/plant sale and soup luncheon on May 18. If you would like to donate some plants to the sale, please call Penny Gregory at 465-2775. We are in the process of potting some of the plants we already have and are running short on gallon pots. If you have a few lying around and would like to pass them on, please let us know. We can even pick them up, if you need us to.

As a special treat at the event, we will have a display of artwork done by a couple of local talents. Though there is a few years (generations is probably closer to the truth) difference in the ages of the two artists, it just goes to show that there is a tie that binds where art is concerned. Beverly Wallace is a local painter from Grays River, and Samuel Zimmerman, also a painter, is from Grays River as well.

Get yourself primed for the Rosburg Club Chicken Dinner which is fast approaching and will be held at the Rosburg Hall on April 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the dinner you don’t want to miss if you love chicken with all the trimmings and the club’s famous homemade desserts. Bring the family. Proceeds will be used to maintain the hall, and provide scholarships to our local students.

Have you noticed that the Rosburg Store has had some construction going on? Leslie says they are installing more equipment and will have pizza available in the near future. It’s wonderful to have a small local family owned store in our neighborhood, so let’s show our appreciation by shopping there. If you have suggestions or ideas on what they could do better, be sure and let them know. They are willing to work with the community.

The Rosburg Senior Lunch Bunch that meets at the Rosburg Hall will enjoy a wonderful home-cooked meal including casserole veggies, bread and dessert on April 3. The menu for April 10 features stew, hot rolls and dessert. These meals are prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, senior lunches are also served at the hall and are sponsored by CAP. Check out both groups and enjoy a nutritious meal in very good company.

We had an absolutely wonderful visit with our daughters and their families last week. It was way too short, but the kids got to run the gamut of weather here in Grays River with snow, hail, rain, wind, and even a little bit of sun. They had a blast, hiking around the property with the dogs, getting muddy and wet and then warm by the wood stove. We love family! It was good for all of us.
