We had one more trip to the ER, this time for low heart rate and low blood pressure, an overnight stay at St. John’s and came home again on Tuesday with a pacemaker. We hope this will be the last hospital trip for a while. The nurses and staff doctors are on a first-name basis with both of us lately, and we certainly appreciate them and the care they have provided during our visits. Thank you everyone for all your kindness, support, and friendship through this long and tiring journey. We certainly look forward to a calm period for a while.

Sports calendar for the Naselle Comet teams this week: Thursday- Comet Invite home track meet at 4 p.m .; May 1- middle school track meet at North Beach at 4 p.m .; May 2- high school track meet at Raymond at 4 p.m. Go Comets!

This spring, Naselle Elementary School celebrated Earth Day. All the children in grades K-5 participated in the Earth Day Groceries Project, which brought the school and community together. Okies Select Market in Naselle donated grocery bags to the school for the children to decorate with an Earth Day theme. This turned into a contest as one bag from each grade was chosen as the best from each class. Those bags will be displayed at the store and the rest of the bags were used for their customers on Earth Day, April 22.

The Spring Salad luncheon hosted by the Naselle Lutheran Church, located at 308 Knappton Road in Naselle, will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. This annual event includes the luncheon, plant sale, bake sale, craft room and quilt sales.

Enjoy the luncheon with lots of salads to choose from for a suggested donation of $7. Browse through the many plants including more than 550 tomato plants donated by Alfred Simmuka, baked goods including many traditional Finnish rooted recipes, quilts made by the Tuesday Quilters group, and many other handcrafted items.

Proceeds from this event will go toward supporting mission work of the church, and Thrivent will match funds up to $600.

Do you have prescription drugs in your home that are outdated, not being taken anymore, and don’t know what to do with them? Take them to the Wahkiakum County Drug Take Back event at Johnson Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop off any drugs and have them disposed of for you in a safe manner.

As most of us know, Norm Bolton and his family are mainstays in the community of Rosburg. He has been a giver of time and energy (not to mention money) with many different projects for the benefit of our entire community. His latest venture- the Rosburg Store- is expanding its capability to serve us as customers by adding soups, sandwiches, pizzas, and more in the near future. There will be more to come about that.

Norm called me the other evening and said that he had walked into the store a while back and noticed a flyer on the door which invited folks to an 80th birthday gathering. He said he thought that it was great that somebody had made it to the ripe old age of 80 in the area. Then he looked more closely at the paper and discovered the party was for him. Yes, he will be celebrating on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Rosburg Hall. He is inviting everyone to join him at this potluck gathering, but he also tells me it’s not for his birthday- it’s for everyone’s birthday. Bring a dish to share and help Norm celebrate this milestone. Thank him for all the community service projects he has been involved in, and just make this a fun and memorable day for him. Happy 80th, Norm.

“School Days” is the theme for this years annual Spring Tea and Luncheon sponsored by the Friendship Circle of the Grays River United Methodist Church. The annual event takes place on May 5. Enjoy a wonderful luncheon, tea, entertainment and a raffle with some beautiful prizes.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week at the Rosburg Hall at noon for a nutritious meal and an afternoon of good company. The meals are prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew.

Senior meals are also served at the above location on Tuesdays and Thursdays and are sponsored by CAP. Come join in for some great meals and fun.

Here’s hoping the weather man is right with his predictions for some warm and sunny weather this week. I see Nancy George is out rototilling her garden spot, so that’s a good sign. I’m hoping to get the lawn mowed, or I may need some goats to come and graze it for me.
