News from Naselle:

Classes for Naselle-Grays River Valley students will resume on Monday, January 6.

Sports calendar for the Comet teams include: January 3- boys basketball with Neahkanie in Naselle at 5:45 p.m. and girls basketball with Neahkanie at 7 p.m .; January 4- girls basketball at Montesano at 5 p.m. and boys basketball with Wahkiakum in Naselle at 5:45 p.m .; January 7- girls basketball at Raymond at 7 p.m. Go Comets!

A meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 8, at 7 p.m. to discuss financial aid and scholarship information.

Each class entering high school is responsible for fundraising for their senior year. The graduating class of 2015 will be hosting an event to benefit their class, on Saturday, January 4 in the high school commons beginning at 5 p.m. On the menu will be chicken adobo, rice, pansit (noodles) and lumpia (Philippine egg rolls). Come join them and help out by enjoying a delicious meal.

Other news from the Westend:

The Grays River Valley Library/Community Computer Center hours have changed beginning this week. The new hours are as follows: Monday and Wednesday open from noon to 6 p.m., Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Grays River Habitat Enhancement District will hold its regular monthly meeting on January 8 in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park at 5:15 p.m.

The Johnson Park Advisory Board members invite you to join us for the second annual 3 C’s Chowdown: Chili, Chowder and Chicken Noodle Soup, event which will be held in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park on Sunday, January 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Donations from the Chowdown will be used to help retrofit the gymnasium with more energy efficient lighting.

This week’s Free Friday Night movie at the Grays River Valley Center will be “Planes,” an animated Disney movie for kids about a crop-dusting plane with a fear of heights who lives his dream of competing in a famous around-the-world aerial race. Bring the whole family for a fun evening. Concessions are available with pop, candy and popcorn with a free refill on your popcorn.

We would love to have a few more people show up for the movies, so if the shows are not what you would like to see, please let us know. We are always looking for suggestions, so if there is a particular movie you would like to see, please contact us at 465-2310.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets at the Rosburg Hall each week for a home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew. Lunch is served at noon.

On Thursdays lunch is also served at the above location and those meals are sponsored by CAP

I understand that there have been quite a few thefts in the valley, especially of fuel and tools. It seems to be happening more frequently, and we need to be aware. Keep a watchful eye out for your neighbor’s property as well as your own, and report any unusual activity if you should see it. That’s what neighbors are supposed to do, don’t you think?
