Since I didn’t have to go anywhere during the snowy days we have had, I took the opportunity to enjoy what little accumulation we had. It was a beautiful sight with the snow causing the tree branches to hang almost to the ground, heavy with the white stuff. We were the lucky ones though, I think. All around us it was pretty scary, especially if you had to drive.

Sports calendar for the coming week for the Comet teams: Friday, the 14th-middle school boys basketball with South Bend in Naselle at 5:45 p.m. Go Comets!

Last Friday, the 7th, Naselle’s top Knowledge Bowl team “The Force” competed in an ESD 113 regional meet in Olympia for a chance to advance to the state competition. They placed 6th overall and 2nd among 1B schools following the written round and four oral rounds earning themselves a place in the state tournament to be held in Arlington on March 22. The team members include captain Emily Gjovik, Abigail Bennett, Brittany Waltemate, Amethyst Wirkkala , Cloe Zimmerman and Kyler Wulf. Best of luck to these studious and hard working kids.

Monday, the 17th is a holiday for students in commemoration of President’s Day.

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School Board will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, the 18th at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

The Red Cross and student, Grace Zimmerman are coordinating a local blood drive on Tuesday, the 25th at the Valley Bible Church from 1 to 5 p.m. More donations are needed to meet her goal of 24. Remember each donation can save three lives.

The Grays River United Methodist Church Friendship Circle’s Luncheon and Bazaar will be held on Saturday, February 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

They will be serving their famous beef stew, unique cheesy bread, beverages and home made desserts in the social hall of the church located on SR 4 West in Grays River near mile post 18. The meal is by donation. The event will also include a bake sale and some new and repurposed items for sale at reasonable prices.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2nd annual Spaghetti Feed to be held on March 22 in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. Tickets are $10 each for all you can eat spaghetti with salad, bread and beverage. You can purchase your advance ticket from a board member, in the library or by calling 465-2310.

The date for the Spaghetti Feed is listed on the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce calendar is wrong. The correct date is March 22.

Speaking of March 8, don’t forget to get your tickets to the annual Crab and Oyster dinner and dance. Only 200 tickets are available so you may want to make your purchase soon as this event is always a sell out.

A reminder to everyone, when the weather is bad enough for the school to cancel classes or if there is snow and ice in the vicinity, the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park will also be closed. We are sorry for any inconvenience but would rather be safe than sorry.

The free Friday Night movie last week will be rescheduled for a later date. Hopefully this Friday we will be back on schedule with another great, recently run movie beginning at 7 p.m. Concessions are also available with reasonable prices.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets at the Rosburg Hall each week for a home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew. Lunch is served at noon.

On Thursdays, a senior meal is also served at the above location and is sponsored by CAP.

After more than 50 years, it appears as though you still enjoy each other's company. Wishing you many, many more years together.
