Naselle graduation Saturday at 4 p.m.

Last weekend, it seemed like all the old cars in the whole area were driving down SR 4. What a wonderful sight, seeing all the cars and bringing back lots of old memories for many of us. I hear that the Car Show in Skamokawa was once again a huge success.

I was happy to finally get a chance to mow the lawn again after all the moisture we had been getting. It was almost time to decide whether to bring cows into the yard to graze or to make hay. Once it starts growing in the spring, there’s no stopping it.

News from Naselle:

Naselle high school class of 2014 will hold their graduation ceremony on Saturday, 4 p.m., in the Lyle Patterson Gymnasium. Each graduate will begin a whole new chapter in their lives after this weekend, moving out into the world in different directions. It will be a time of triumph, joy, pride in their accomplishment, and maybe even a little sadness, as they make their way into the future. We are proud, as a community, of our graduates for all their hard work, community spirit, and their accomplishments. I wish each one Godspeed in whatever you choose to do with the time and years ahead of you, and best of luck with your own personal goals. Congratulations, Class of 2014.

Eighth Grade move-up will be held on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and kindergarten graduation will be on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The final day of classes will be June 13 and students will be released at 12:30 p.m.

Just a heads up in advance for Naselle’s big bi-annual event, the Finnish-American Folk Festival which will be held on July 25-27. Food, fun and history.

Westend news:

How about a free, fresh cup of coffee and some conversation in the mornings? The Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park is now open on weekday mornings at about 8 a.m. in the library/computer center. Check it out.

The sewing room is now open on Thursdays from 10 a.m. with talented seamstress, Donna Moody on hand to give you a few pointers or a lesson on sewing. Contact Donna with questions or more information

If you are looking for a Genealogy Support Group, here is your chance to take advantage of others endeavors in finding their roots. Several people in our community are willing to share their knowledge of how they found some of their ancestors, and are willing to help you find yours. If you are interested, please call Judy Durrah at 465-2331, to set a time and date for a monthly meeting.

Have you been inside the Grays River Valley Center lately? A few changes have been made in the hallways. The lockers were temporarily moved out of the halls for painting and the free paperback book exchange is now located in the hall as you enter the west entrance of the building. Last weekend we had some help with the move, so we would like to say thank you so much to the following volunteers: Richard Kandoll, Mary Flores, Jeff Ashe, Heath Thompson, Kimberly DeJesus, PJ Katims, Nancy George and Kevin Durrah. We really appreciate your hard work. It was a big job, but now you can browse the paperbacks to your heart's content.

The free Friday night movie this week at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park is a great film for the whole family. It is a true life adventure introducing an adorable baby chimp named Oscar and his entertaining approach to life in a remarkable story of family bonds and individual triumph. The world is a playground for little Oscar and his fellow young chimps but when his family is confronted by a rival band of chimps, he is left to fend for himself until a surprising ally steps in and changes his life forever. Please join us for a fun, family evening. Concessions are available with popcorn, candy and pop for reasonable prices.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch that meets at the Rosburg Hall enjoys a home cooked meal each week prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew. Menus for the next two weeks include: the 11th-soup and mini salad bar with hot rolls and dessert; the 18th-hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad and dessert.

On Thursdays, at the same location, senior lunches are also served and are sponsored by CAP. These two venues are a great opportunity to have a nutritious meal and meet for some social time with your friends and neighbors.

We are looking forward to a visit from my sister, Sharon and her friend, Joan from California this next week. It has been more than a year since we last visited, and they plan to stay about a week.

Since my family reads my column online, I want to congratulate my second oldest granddaughter, Madeline Fredrickson on her graduation from high school in Stockton, California. She will be attending Chico State College in the fall, in the teaching program. We are very proud of you, Maddie.
