The sun was shining last Saturday and Sunday, so I put the rummage and book sale signs out on the highway. We had people stopping by both days and purchasing some of our many used books and rummage sale treasures. We will be planning a sale each week end in the month of July. At these sales, I will be selling raffle tickets for the two cords of firewood from the alder trees that were cut up and stacked last month. I am raffling the cords separately; you can purchase tickets for cord one and cord two. The tickets can also be purchased at the Wahkiakum County Fair Board booth at Bald Eagle Days on July 16, our Vista Park Market booth on July 30 or stop by the Fair office. This raffle is a Wahkiakium County Fair Board fund raiser. All proceeds will be used for projects on the Fairgrounds or maintenance and operation of the 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair.
It’s finally getting built! The project this week is to build the other half of the pig and sheep barn. The barn, when completed will be big enough for 18 animal pens, each 6’ x 6’. Six of the pens will be used for pigs and 12 for sheep during the fair.
Last week my project was to create a raised bed garden on the Fairgrounds. The vegetable plants are growing well and like the warm wet weather. I planted zucchini, summer squash, three types of tomato plants, five pepper plants, cucumber plants and will add a few scarlet runner beans if I can find some seeds. The plants were donated for this garden project by my hard working friends Barbara, Georgie and Ed. If this little 16 foot garden produces good vegetables I would like to add another 16 feet next year to this project. If a local garden club would like to do this project this year, give me a call.
Only seven more weeks until Fair! Still plenty of time to create crafts, take pictures, put together a collection of items, sew an outfit, can up some fruit and dry some herbs. Spend a few hours each week getting your projects done and you will have lots to exhibit at the Fair. It’s easy. It’s free. If you haven’t exhibited at the Fair, we can help you fill out the tags. You will receive premium points for each item awarded a ribbon, these points are worth money we pay you for exhibiting at our Fair! Read through the Fair book, there are all kinds of items you can exhibit.
