The Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet has elected officers for the 2013-14 fiscal year.
County fair loses its manager
The Wahkiakum County fair gained a handyman Tuesday but lost a manager.
Citizens: Proceed with junk ordinance
Junked cars. Bulldozers. Old boats and trailer houses. Road encroachment. Pollution threats from leaking fluids. You name it, and Wahkiakum County residents can tell you where to find it in their neighborhoods.
Council fills vacant position
The Cathlamet Town Council filled a vacant council position and acted on other business when it met Monday evening.
County OKs easement for refuge levy project
Wahkiakum County commissioners approved an easement allowing the US Army Corps of Engineers to cut through the Steamboat Slough Dike Road when they met Tuesday. Commissioners also heard developing plans for a public housing project in the Cathlamet area and acted on other business.
Ideas floated for waterfront development
About 40 residents of Wahkiakum County attended a Waterfront Development Meeting in the JA Wendt multipurpose room on Saturday, May 18 for presentations and discussion of the development of Cathlamet's waterfront.
School board okays new Financial Algebra
School board members approved the adoption of a new textbook for the math curriculum, Financial Algebra, as an alternative to Algebra II.
Cimino art sale continues with price reductions
The sale of art from Tsuga Gallery founder Janet Cimino's collection has been quite successful, but there are still some pieces left. Tsuga's board has decided to reduce all remaining items to half price to clear them out. The sale will last through the next two weekends.
Westend residents discuss junk vehicle ordinance
On May 15, County Commissioners Blair Brady and Dan Cothren conducted a town hall meeting, for the people of the Westend and anyone with concerns of accumulations of junk cars, boats, trailers etc. The meeting was simply to hear peoples’ concerns, after numerous complaints to the county departments.
Archive Center to show Finnish movie
The Finnish movie for May at the Appelo Archives Center, Tommy and the Wildcat (Poika ja Ilves), will be shown on May 25th at 11 a.m.
Documentary tonight at high school gym
Tonight, (Thursday) at 7 p.m., St. James Family Center/The Charlotte House in collaboration with Wahkiakum School District will be showing Bully at the Wahkiakum High School gymnasium.
Special filing period now underway
The Wahkiakum County Auditor will hold a special filing period Wednesday through Friday for positions for which no candidates filed this past week.
Candidates file for office; some positions unclaimed
Filing for elected offices that will appear on this year's primary and general election ballots wrapped up Friday with three contested positions and many positions unclaimed.
PUD board handles varied business
With no pressing business to act on, Wahkiakum PUD commissioners met briefly Tuesday morning to sign vouchers and to hear reports.

Another delay for setback levee
Representatives of the US Army Corps of Engineers and US Fish and Wildlife Service met with Wahkiakum County commissioners Tuesday to go over plans for a new levee on the Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge for the Columbian White-tailed Deer.
Port 1 discusses dredging, derelicts
Wahkiakum Port District No. 1 commissioners want to see if something can be done about the state of Cathlamet Channel.
