At their last meeting, the CAP Board of Directors presented Tony Jessen with an award and a gift certificate in recognition of the extra care and concern he shows with his clients. Twice a month Tony takes the CAP van to Wahkiakum County to bring rural seniors in to Longview for the day as part of CAP’s Senior Rides program. When one of his regular riders, Jennie Pearson from Rosburg, didn’t appear, Tony could have driven on to his next stop. Instead, he went to investigate and found the elderly lady lying on her kitchen floor where she had fallen several hours before. Tony called for assistance and attended her until emergency personnel arrived. Because of her isolation, Mrs. Pearson believes that she wouldn’t have been discovered for many more hours and credits Tony with saving her life. CAP Board member Esther Gregg proposed the award, saying, "As Jennie's friends and neighbors, we are so thankful that Tony sensed that something wasn't right and had the compassion and caring to go investigate." Kelly Wagoner, CAP Transportation program manager, praises Jessen, who has been a CAP driver since November 2003. “Tony is a real asset to our program. The Wahkiakum County seniors adore him. In recent months he has been instrumental in assisting two of our senior riders during medical crises.” The second senior, Shirley Skillicorn of Cathlamet, was displaying signs of a severe medical problem. Jessen notified her family and immediately drove Mrs. Skillicorn to the local clinic. The van service runs on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, bringing seniors into Longview from Cathlamet and Rosburg, said Wagoner.
