There will be a Country Dance at the Netel Grange south of Astoria on Saturday April 28 from 8 until 11 p.m.
Hope Stanton of Nehalem will call dances to lively old-time dance music played by the Blue Heron String band consisting of Ann Baldwin, piano; Gina Kytr, fiddle; and Hobe Kytr, banjo.
The evening will consist of a mix of traditional contra dances, mixers and square and round dances which are vigorous, fun and easy to learn. In a contra dance, dancers form two parallel lines and progress up and down the hall while dancing alternately with their partner and every opposite dancer in the line. If you've never danced before, a Country Dance is a great way to start. No experience is necessary; all dances are taught.
All ages, singles and families are welcome. There will be a workshop at 7:30 p.m. to teach the basics and improve style. The dance is an alcohol, smoke-free event with refreshments available. Admission is $5 to $10 depending on ability to pay. Escorted children younger than 12 are admitted free.
The Netel Grange is located at 90525 Logan Road. For information call (503) 325-8207.
