Straw Hat, the children’s opera from Finland, is in production, leading up to a single public performance which will be held Friday night at Naselle School Commons at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Cast members include Haleigh See and Katie Nelson as the narrators, Cassie Van Deusen as mother, Amanda Wirkkala as father, Keenan Keeley as the baby and a chorus of 10 children from the 5th through 8th grades.
The Finnish/ Norwegian band “Frigg” are fiddling their way around the country on a six week tour.
Their performances at the Naselle School and at the Suomi Lodge were enthusiastically received.
Both the children’s opera and the band Frigg are sponsored by the Finnish-American Folk Festival with a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.
