Julius E. Kindelan celebrated his 100th birthday on June 1 at the Washington State Veterans Home in Retsil.
Attending the party from Cathlamet were his stepson, Jim Miller and his wife Linda, and Janet Cimino. Kindelan lived with the Millers from 1991-1998 and was often seen driving his orange 240Z on Main Street.
President and Mrs. Bush sent their good wishes as did Gov. Gregoire. Kindelan was presented an engraved plaque set in walnut from the US Navy, thanking him for his service. He entered the San Diego Training Center in 1925, its inaugural year. After returning to civilian life, he rejoined during WWII.
The Activity Director prepared a photo board of persons and places in Kindelan's life. She also arranged for a tap dance troupe to entertain the residents and guests before cutting the birthday cake.
