July 12, 2007 The Columbia River Compact met July 5 and closed the summer commercial salmon season.
The Compact concluded that based on the reduced in season runsize forecast of 40,000, the 1,100 fish allocation to non-Indian commercial fisheries may be exceeded if the fishery was allowed to occur.
Additional hearings will occur as needed to modify ongoing fisheries or consider additional fishing opportunity. A Compact hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. July 26 at the Astoria Public Library, 450 10th Street in Astoria. The purpose of the hearing will be to review stock status of fall chinook and consider non-Indian fall mainstem and select area commercial fisheries.
