July 12, 2007 All outdoor burning is banned in Wahkiakum County effective 12:01 this morning (Thursday), county Fire Marshal Chuck Beyer announced July 10.
All burning permits are rescinded until further notice.
Recreational fires are allowed only in approved fire pits.
Beyer described these as the pits in Skamokawa Vista Park or County Line Park that have steel or concrete walls on three sides and a hinged grate on top. These fires must be attended.
People may also use household type barbecues with briquettes or propane as fuel or in camp stoves with liquid fuel.
The recent spell of hot dry weather has increased fire danger statewide. Fire crews in Wahkiakum County responded to three different brush or grass fires last week.
