The Wahkiakum Community Foundation has announced that Kayrene Gilbertsen has been named as director of the Julia Butler Hansen Heritage Center. In this new part-time paid position, Gilbertsen will oversee all activities at the Center, recruit and train volunteers, arrange for classes and be the main contact for any private rentals. She begins the new position on October 1. "Kayrene has faithfully volunteered at the Hansen Heritage Center since the Community Foundation received the house and property as a gift from David Hansen in 2004," said foundation director Karen Bertroch. "I am pleased to see her given recognition for all her good work as a volunteer in so many organizations in the area by offering her a paid position as staff at the Center." As part of her new position, Gilbertsen is currently attending the AASLH (American Association for State and Local History) Conference in Atlanta along with Audrey Wirkkala from the Archive Center staff.
