The Wahkiakum School board met March 19 in another low key session.
Superintendent Bob Garrett said Wrestling Coach John Hannah has requested permission to take the team to Alaska for an invitational tournament. Garrett said they have enough money from fundraisers, and he believed it would be a good experience for the team.
Board member Lee Tischer asked if the trip would be mid-week. Garrett said he wasn’t sure of the exact dates at this time, but said students would be given homework assignments in advance. The board moved and seconded approval for the trip.
Two staff members from the middle school have lost their keys; one at school and one away from school. Garrett said that at the next meeting, the board would need to discuss changing the locks and the subsequent cost.

Wahkiakum High School Principal Loren Davis announced the students of the month. Brandi Arness was announced as this month's KLOG/Lions Club Senior.
The assembly featuring Holocaust survivor Alter Wiener was a success, Davis said. He added that Wiener's message was well received as many students purchased his book and that, had time allowed for it, the question and answer time would have gone on much longer.

Julius A. Wendt/John C. Thomas Principal Theresa Libby said that Family Night was a lot of fun. Students and their parents had a good time playing card games and dancing. She said without the help of students and staff, the event wouldn’t have happened. “They deserve a big pat on the back for all their time and effort.”
The elementary school met their goal of 5400 box tops and earned a party for the whole school. Collections will continue and will go towards next year’s goal.

The board met in a lengthy executive session to discuss a complaint made against Girls Basketball Coach Tim Brown. The board has taken no action at this time.
