The Cathlamet Library has been closed till January 29 because of safety concerns.
A contractor has been working to replace a footing of a sagging wall, and excavations Thursday released a large amount of groundwater. Town hall employees noticed doors were sticking and out alignment, and officials called in an engineer for an inspection.
"The building is shifting more than expected," Mayor George Wehrfritz announced. "It seems within the range of normal movement, but just to be safe, we've closed the library until Friday, January 29."
