Council members approved a plan offered by Councilmember Dick Swart to hire a forester and begin preparing town timber for harvest.
The town has contracted with William R. (Bill)Olsen to be town forester. Olsen has previously served in that capacity. The town hasn't had a forester for the past few years.
The council will soon call for bids to repair and improve the access road leading to the towns timberland on Bradley Mountain. The 280 acres were logged in the 1960's.
Swart said that if all goes according to plan, the town could call for bids this spring to log portions of the land.
Librarian Carol Blix also reported contractors hope to complete final projects for the refurbished Blanche Bradley Library this week. The library will have a grand opening this Saturday afternoon.
Council members agreed that Blix could work with a contractor to connect the library to a fiber optic network as soon as possible. They also approved a change order to add an additional electrical outlet to serve the library's computer system.
Engineer Ken Alexander of Gray and Osborne Engineers reported that contractor Pacific Crest Construction is wrapping up work at the new wastewater treatment plant.
The project will cost about $7.54 million. The council approved two change orders for $6,030 to take care of problems resulting from design errors. Alexander said the firm will cover the costs.
