It may sound romantic, but there is a bit of work involved. It’s a bit like a summer job, according to Fair Manager Patty Dursteler.
“The girls are responsible for fund raising,” Dursteler said. “They will be selling fair passes and raffle tickets and coming up with their own ways to raise money.”
The princess who raises the most money wins the crown. The money they raise will go towards bills, upkeep, improvements and future events at the fair.
Each girl who raises $500 will receive $100. They will also receive 10 percent of the amount they raise over $500.
“They get to have some fun,” Dursteler added. “We’ll attend the Cowlitz County Fair, go to a concert and take them out to dinner.”
This year’s Fair Princesses are:
--Marcie Dunham, 15, of Cathlamet. Her parents are Kim Nettles and Dwayne Dunham.
--Abbie Eaton, 17, of Naselle. Her parents are Jeff and Amber Eaton.
--Allison Kirby, 16, of Puget Island. Her dad is David Kirby.
--Kyrah Scuito, 15, of Skamokawa. Her parents are Wendy and John Scuito.
--Tarah Wisner, 14, of Mill Creek. Her parents are Michelle and John Wisner.
--Courtney Zurick, 19, of Cathlamet. Her mother is Patty Dursteler.
