February 26, 2014



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

February 17 – 5:07 a.m. Flooding was reported on a Grays River roadway. 7:14 a.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire in the Elochoman Valley. 8:52 a.m. A landslide closed a section of the Elochoman Valley Road.

February 18 – 12:23 p.m. A caller reported a theft and the destruction of property in the Little Cape Horn area. 1:50 p.m. The Department of Transportation cleared a tree that had fallen onto SR 4 west of Skamokawa. 9:40 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a resident who was choking.

February 19 – 7:58 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance, the District 4 Fire Department and the sheriff’s office responded to a one vehicle accident on SR 4 west of Nassa Point. 10:04 a.m. The sheriff’s office responded to a two vehicle accident in Rosburg; no injuries were reported. 10:24 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a theft. 1:12 p.m. A Grays River resident reported missing cattle. 2 p.m. Child abuse was reported at a Grays River home.

February 20 – 3:15 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported seeing an unknown, suspicious woman place large quantities of “miscellaneous paper” in various mailboxes. 10:05 p.m. A Puget Island resident was concerned about two strangers who had parked in front of his home.

February 21 – 11:01 a.m. A caller reported that a section of SR 4 in the Grays River area was slick, possibly due to an oil spill. 12:42 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale residence to assist with a lift. 4:19 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale residence to assist with a lift. 5:51 p.m. A caller reported a boat being hauled unsafely on SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. 6:15 p.m. A driver hit a deer in the Rosedale area. 11:01 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an elderly Rosedale resident who was feeling ill.

February 22 -- 1:27 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a suspicious vehicle. 3:25 a.m. A caller reported hearing shots fired in the vicinity of Erickson Park in Cathlamet. 11:49 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported two loose dogs on his property; the caller was able to catch one and made an attempt to contact the owner, the other dog got away. 4:42 p.m. A vehicle was found at the marina with the door open and the keys in it. 6:43 p.m. A caller reported a “fire ball in the sky flying parallel to SR 4, heading west”. A second call came in from someone saying it looked like a flare gun had been fired; the US Coast Guard was notified. 10:39 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department and the Grays River Fire Department responded to a report of a chimney fire in Deep River.

February 23 – 1:01 a.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a Skamokawa residence to assist an elderly man who had fallen. 3:20 a.m. A caller reported seeing a woman and a man running in opposite directions on SR 4; the woman was screaming. 9:38 a.m. A caller complained about the neighbor’s dog; the dog keeps showing up at his residence and he would like the owners to keep it at home. 11:34 a.m. Two sick elk were reported in the Elochoman Valley; fish and wildlife personnel were notified. 12:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an elderly Cathlamet man who had fallen and sustained a head injury. 1:35 p.m. A landslide blocked the westbound lane on the Altoona-Pillar Rock Road; the county road crew cleared the road. 2:13 p.m. A caller reported that someone had threatened to beat him up and was en route. 5:42 p.m. The sheriff’s office and District 4 Fire Department responded to a two vehicle accident in the Elochoman Valley; no injuries were reported. 7:53 p.m. A caller reported that an inebriated man with a white parrot on his shoulder was walking eastbound in the westbound lane on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area.

February 24 – 1:14 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a juvenile had run away. 2:26 a.m. A caller reported that tree branches were blocking the roadway on SR 4 east of Nassa Point.
