Sheriff's Report, July 3, 2014

 


Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

June 23 – 7:55 a.m. A Deep River resident reported being threatened by a neighbor. 9:13 a.m. A caller reported finding drug paraphernalia at a Rosedale residence. 12:43 p.m. The sheriff’s office received a request for an agency assist after an officer was shot in the hand in Columbia County. 3:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a resident on the east end of the county who may have suffered a stroke.

June 24 – 9:50 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island resident who had fallen. 10:02 a.m. A caller reported that a pit bull was seen roaming within city limits at night. 12:24 p.m. A caller reported that two small dogs had been abandoned near the refuge office; a deputy investigated but the dogs were frightened and ran off. A local resident who deals with rescued dogs put out food and agreed to check on the dogs the next day. 12:34 p.m. A Rosedale resident requested that squatters who were camping in his backyard be removed; a deputy contacted the landlord and discovered it was the landlord’s brother. He will be asked to leave. 12:59 p.m. District 4 Fire Department and deputies investigated a report of black smoke seen on Greenwood Road from SR 4; they discovered it was a controlled burn. 4:56 p.m. A caller reported a dispute between children and adults in Cathlamet regarding the ownership of a bicycle. 10:08 p.m. A caller reported seeing two juveniles dressed in dark clothing and not very visible walking west on SR 4; a deputy made contact and drove them home. 11:59 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a child in Cathlamet who was having trouble breathing.

June 25 – 9:28 a.m. Deputies responded to the report of a one vehicle accident on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 2:31 p.m. A caller reported hearing a dispute between a man and woman in an apartment above a Cathlamet business; deputies investigated and were unable to locate the party. The report was declared unfounded. 6:10 p.m. A caller reported that an inebriated man was causing problems and picking fights at the marina. 8:22 p.m. A subject was seen attempting to hitchhike in the Elochoman Valley; he yelled and threw objects at cars when they didn’t stop. 10:16 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that someone was outside the home, wanting to use the telephone and asking for matches.

June 26 – 2:29 a.m. An individual was at the sheriff’s office requesting food and shelter; none were located and a deputy took him to Longview. 8:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an Elochoman Valley residence to aid someone who was ill. 9:57 a.m. A Deep River resident reported that one of his neighbor’s dogs was more aggressive than usual. 12:56 p.m. A caller reported that a fifth wheel trailer had an obstruction sticking out into oncoming traffic. 1:13 p.m. A caller reported that garbage and broken glass was found at Johnson Park, believed to be left over from an underage party the night before; more patrols were requested. 6:03 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to an Elochoman Valley home because someone was concerned that a family member was being assaulted. 8:11 p.m. A car was seen heading west on SR 4 near Flandersville at a high rate of speed and all over the roadway. 9:36 p.m. A 911 call was made, but the caller hung up. The operator called the number and was told that the person causing the problem had left; it was a dispute over online threats.

June 27 – 9:43 a.m. A caller reported gravel on SR 4 in the Deep River area. 10:12 a.m. A caller reported a large bag of garbage on SR 4 on the east end of the county. 10:58 a.m. There was a tree down on a Deep River road; public works was notified. 1:58 p.m. Charlotte House requested a deputy for a civil standby. 4:40 p.m. A caller reported that a car was parked and left unattended in the middle of a Cathlamet street. 6:41 p.m. A burglary was reported at a Rosedale residence.

June 28 – 4:21 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Skamokawa resident with heart problems. 9:31 a.m. A purse was found and the sheriff’s office located the owner. 11:52 a.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department and the Cahtlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island resident who had fallen and was unable to move her arm. 1:57 p.m. Cattle were loose in the Skamokawa area and headed towards SR 4; a message was left with their owner. 5:00 p.m. A traffic accident occurred in the parking lot of a Cathlamet business. 7:19 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale residence. 11:09 p.m. A caller reported hearing fireworks in the Rosedale area. 11:15 p.m. A caller reported that fireworks were being discharged; a deputy located the responsible party and advised them of the law. 11:16 p.m. A caller reported hearing gunshots; he was advised that it was fireworks and that the responsible party had been contacted.

June 29 – 2:14 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that someone was knocking on the door; a deputy responded and checked the area. 10:21 a.m. A juvenile was reported missing; she was later located and on her way home. 11:53 a.m. A Rosedale resident complained that a neighbor was throwing trash and dog feces over the fence and into the caller’s yard; a deputy spoke to the neighbor who admitted to the trash but denied the feces. 12:32 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Skamokawa address; deputies investigated and found all was secure. 2:18 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded when caller reported finding a dead male in a car on Puget Island. 2:43 p.m. A swarm of bees was discovered in Redmen Hall; a beekeeper was notified and en route. 4:36 p.m. A welfare check was requested at a Skamokawa residence; deputies responded and a family member said that the subject of the welfare check was okay. 5:44 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported receiving threats from an estranged spouse. 7:36 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an elderly Cathlamet resident who had abdominal pain.
