Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

June 30 – 8:32 a.m. A caller reported that a painting had been stolen from Redmen Hall; it was later discovered that a volunteer had moved the painting after it had fallen. 11:24 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a neighbor had damaged some of his property while clearing an easement they shared. 2:54 p.m. Two goats were found slaughtered at a Rosburg cemetery. 6:26 p.m. A deputy discovered a diesel fuel trail heading eastbound on SR 4; the truck was located and the Washington State Department of Transportation was informed about the spill. 6:58 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an Elochoman Valley resident who had lost consciousness. 7:26 p.m. A caller reported vehicles speeding in Cathlamet. 8:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the pool to assist a child who was feeling faint and bleeding from an eye and nose.

July 1 – 4:13 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an elderly Puget Island resident who was complaining of shortness of breath. 8:57 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to assist a Grays River resident who was having a diabetic seizure. 11:21 a.m. A caller complained that pick up trucks belonging to a local logging business were often over the speed limit in the Elochoman Valley. 4:31 p.m. A caller reported that there had been inappropriate electronic contact between an adult and a juvenile. 4:39 p.m. Deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a church in Cathlamet. 6:55 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported receiving a phone call from someone soliciting information about a family member and claiming to be from the Longview police department. When she tried to return the phone call, the Longview police department referred her to the Wahkiakum sheriff’s office; a deputy said he would contact the caller after he investigated. 6:59 p.m. A Cathlamet resident complained that a man had repeatedly harassed her about her dog barking. 9:23 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department, District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an unconscious Elochoman Valley resident; LifeFlight was activated and transported the resident. 10:05 p.m. Youths were seen driving a vehicle on the football field in Cathlamet with two juveniles sitting on the top of the car. 10:20 p.m. A juvenile with autism was located after becoming upset and leaving home; a care counselor agreed to follow up. 10:48 p.m. A tree was down on a Deep River road; the county road department was contacted.

July 2 – 8:34 a.m. A caller reported a truck parked on the fog line on SR 4 near Nassa Point. 11:22 a.m. An individual was seen trespassing at the Elochoman Hatchery; the individual was camping or squatting. 1:15 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained about a neighbor’s dogs barking. 6:49 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a break in. 7:42 p.m. An individual was seen smoking marijuana at County Line Park. 10:05 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident who was feeling numbness in his face and pain in his lower extremities. 10:38 p.m. A woman was brought in to the sheriff’s office; she had been hitchhiking on 101 when she was tased and then assaulted by a man who had picked her up. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to assist her.

July 3 – 1:07 p.m. A motorist reported being followed too closely by an erratically driven vehicle on SR 4 near County Line Park. 1:16 p.m. A one vehicle accident was reported near County Line Park; no injuries were reported. 1:35 p.m. A caller reported that a truck was losing its load and causing a traffic hazard near Nassa Point; deputies were unable to locate the vehicle. 2:58 p.m. A caller reported that lights had gone out on a power line tower; the Bonneville Power Administration was notified. 3:39 p.m. A Puget Island resident received a fraudulent phone call from someone accusing her of tax evasion. 3:44 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that someone had siphoned gas from a vehicle.

July 4 – 8:16 a.m. A Cathlamet business was found open; a responsible party was contacted. 11:22 a.m. Deputies responded to the report of a domestic dispute at a Skamokawa home. 1:13 p.m. A caller reported that someone had backed into her car at a Rosedale business; the two parties exchanged information. 2:38 p.m. A Deep River resident complained about a loud party at neighbor’s home; he had attempted to make contact to ask them to turn down the music but they were not answering their phone. 3:21 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a neighbor had cut down his fence and several trees. 3:23 p.m. Two teenagers were seen riding a motorcycle and an ATV without helmets on a beach at the refuge. 4:17 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident heard a man calling for help from the woods near her home; deputies responded. 5:04 p.m. A dead calf was found at a Rosburg cemetery. 7:34 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a missing dog. 10:55 p.m. The Puget Island Fire Department responded to a small brush fire on Little Island. 11:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident who had a hand injury from a firework.

July 5 – 12:13 a.m. Fireworks were seen from timber company land. 12:28 a.m. Fireworks were going off in the Rosedale area; they were given a verbal warning. 12:52 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported seeing a deer that seemed to be ailing; on closer inspection, the deer seemed to be fine. 1:07 p.m. ATVs and motorcycles were seen racing on Elochoman Valley roads. 2:11 p.m. Cows were found on a roadway in Skamokawa; the owner was located and he returned them to his property. 2:33 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that his neighbors had seen someone staying at his home while he wasn’t there. 4:21 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported three individuals firing rifles. 7:49 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report of a “man down” in Cathlamet; it turned out the individual was napping. 7:58 p.m. An individual was taken into custody for assault after the report of a domestic disturbance in Deep River. 11:21 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Puget Island resident; deputies were unable to locate the individual at that time. The caller located the individual. 11:45 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver heading eastbound on SR 4.

July 6 – 12:04 a.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver on SR 4 near County Line Park. 10:05 a.m. A dead deer was reported on the shoulder of an Elochoman Valley road. 2:52 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale resident who was “not making sense” and in and out of consciousness. 5:24 p.m. A tree fell on a power line near Little Cape Horn; it was blocking traffic and caused a power outage. The Cathlamet Fire Department, the sheriff’s office and the PUD responded. 8:49 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident who had suffered a stroke; LifeFlight was activated and transported the resident. 9:48 p.m. A dog was found in Grays River. 11:00 p.m. A woman who had been hitchhiking from Longview was brought in to the sheriff’s office; it turned out she was considered to be missing and endangered. The woman’s son arrived and took her home.

July 7 – A motorist reported a basketball size boulder on SR 4 near Nassa Point; the motorist moved it to the side of the road.
