Time to get ready for Mother's Day

This month starts the beginning of a super-busy time around our area, but I have to say, I feel like we've had lots of goings-on already. Having it get even busier means we'll be hopping from one thing to another faster than a frog in a frying pan! Hope you've got your running shoes on, as it's time to hustle.

Follies performers needed in May

When I went to the Janet Cimino artwork sale at Redmen Hall last weekend, I was shocked to see so many empty hooks where paintings, prints and other items had been hanging. Folks came in and grabbed up the great deals. The sale benefits Tsuga Gallery in Cathlamet, which Janet created, so that was really great to see. Never fear, there is plenty more art where those came from.

It's tea time this Saturday at SJFC

It’s time to head to St. James Family Center to enjoy their Royal Tea. There are two seatings, one at noon and one at 2 p.m. on Saturday, so there will be plenty of time to take in both the tea and the doings at Redmen Hall. Also that day will be the annual plant sale and a silent auction. All proceeds from the day will go to benefit the center, which provides a great service for our community.

Busy week ahead in the county

With tulips in bloom, along with the daffodils, camellias and my one red rhododendren, it is looking like spring in spite of the weather, although those pounding rains did not make some of them look so great.

Writer asks for memories of local shoe repair businesses

While I was chatting with Nova McNally the other day, she mentioned that she remembers a shoe repairman in Cathlamet. Roger Davis said he remembered one too, but they each remember the shop in different places, so here's your brain teaser for the week: Was a shoe repair shop located in Cathlamet on Main Street, in the old Wright building, or both? Let me know if you've got some history to share!
