The Willapa Valley edged the Naselle Comets 50-48 in a Southwest 2B District basketball contest at W.F. West High School last week, eliminating Naselle from the playoffs.
The Comets led 26-19 at halftime, but the Vikings outscored the Comets 16-8 in the third quarter to get back in the game. A final 12-4 spurt in the final minutes sent them to the district finals for third and fourth places, which Pe Ell won 70-43.
Manny Lopez led the Comet scoring with 16 points. Austin Burkhalter had 15, Drew Macy 7, Leonel Mendoza four, John Hines three, Ollie Baker two and Alan Erickson one.
The loss ended the season for the Comet seniors, Hines, Macy, Erickson, Burkhalter, Lopez, Jesus Martinez, Marcos Herrera, Devin Thompson and Logan Scrabeck.
