Tigers, Ducks stop Lady Mules

    The Wahkiakum Lady Mule basketball team came up short last weekend in games with two Central League basketball teams.
    On Friday, the Mules kept up with the second ranked Napavine Tigers for the first half, trailing only 28-23 at halftime.
    The Tigers took control in the third quarter, scoring on offense and forcing Mule turnovers that led to more baskets. The visitors led 41-31 after three quarters and outscored the Mules 19-8 down the stretch.
    Maya Stanley led the Mule scoring with 10 points. Brieanna Olsen had eight, Sam Boyce seven, Brianne Helms and Blaine Land six each, and Baylee Olsen two.
    Haylee Budd had seven rebounds,and Boyce made four steals.
    Napavine won a close junior varsity game 39-31.
    For the Mules, Whitney Kuller scored eight points, and Jessica Thomas and Rachel Patching each had six. Hailey Quigley scored five points and blocked five shots.

    Trouble on offense continued on Saturday. The visiting Toutle Lake Ducks  raced to a 22-11 first quarter lead and never looked back enroute to a 69-39 win over the Mules.
    Boyce led the Mule scoring with 10 points; Stanley added seven, Helms and Brieanna Olsen each scored five, Marissa Washington four and Land and Budd two each.

    The Mules entertain the Pe Ell Trojans on Friday in their final regular season game.
    District tournament play starts next week.
