Lady Mules split with Mossy, lose 2 to Onalaska

The Lady Mules softball team played at home on Tuesday and lost twice in a double header with Onalaska. They lost the first game 3-20 and the second 9-19, but played “better than it sounded,” according to Coach Cindy Fudge.

Sam Boyce, Tori Wegdahl and Madison LaBerge all hit singles in the first game. Megan Perez hit a double.

“Boyce stood out defensively at short stop,” Fudge said, “and Tori put in a great effort at the mound.”

The teams were tied in the fourth inning of the second game, but Onalaska got hot and scored 10 runs in the next two innings.

Boyce went four for four behind the plate, hitting a single, two triples and a home run. Morgan Elliott went three for four with two singles and a double, and Perez hit a triple. Wegdahl was two for four at the plate. Shelbie Robinson got her first varsity RBI.

The previous day, the Mules traveled to Mossyrock for a double header and split games, winning the first one 5-3 and losing the second 4-11.

Boyce hit her first home run of the season. Elliott had a double. Wegdahl had two RBIs with adouble, going two for three at the plate.

Defensively, Wegdahl threw 13 strikeouts.

“Tori was on fire,” Fudge said. “Morgan Elliott had a good game and Madison LaBerge stood out defensively.”

The Mules lost the second game with 11 people stranded on base, all told.

Boyce hit another home run and Robinson had a good clutch hit, according to Fudge.

“Boyce, our catcher, took out four runners from behind the plate,” Fudge said. “I’m proud of them as a team. They gave a good effort, They worked hard and supported each other.”

The Lady Mules are scheduled to travel to Adna today (Thursday), weather permitting.
