Mules win district title, head to state

The Wahkiakum Mules last week captured the 2B Golf District Championship for the second year in a row and the sixth time in the history of the 8-year-old program.

Three Mules qualified for the state tournament which will finishAC up today (Thursday) at Lakewood Golf Course.

The Mules finished second, third and fourth of the first seven qualifying staACte slots. Austin Good's two day total 164 earned him second place; Elliot Haney's 175 was good for third, and Zach Calvert's 182 placed fourth. They qualified for the state tournament.

First year player Brady LaBerge finished 13th with a 201, and by surviving the cut on day one of the two-day district tournament, he made it possible for the Mules to compete for the four man team trophy.

The Mules shot 722, Adna 766, and Northwest Christian 769 for the top three teams.

Neither Willapa Valley, North Beach, Raymond nor South Bend had four players make the cut, so they had no team totals. Willapa Valley's Nicholas Betrozoff was medalist with a two-day total 149.
