Driver Safety Program offered
Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services is sponsoring AARP's Driver Safety Program (formerly 55 Alive) in Cathlamet on April 30 and May 1.
This is an eight hour program; classes are at the River Street Building and will run from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. each day. People of any age are welcome to attend. Each participant will need to bring a valid driver's license.
John Dolbey from Longview will be the instructor. Topics will include aggressive driving and road rage, bad weather driving, information on air bags, ABS brakes and seat belts, sight vision braking, signs and road markings review and age-related physical changes.
Upon completion of the program, a certificate will be issued to all participants. This certificate is recognized by most insurance companies for a discount on auto insurance for those 55 and over. Anyone who has not taken the course within two years should take it again to qualify for the discount.
Advance registration is required. Call Wahkiakum Health and Human Services at 795-8630, or 1 800 635-5989 from the Westend. Cost is $10 to cover class materials. Checks should by made out to AARP, and mailed to Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services, 42 Elochoman Valley Road, Cathlamet, WA 98612. For further information contact Dolbey at 425-2586 or Mary Vik at Human Services.
