The Wahkiakum County 4-H Council is getting ready for its 24th annual Great White Tail Run on May 17.
The first step in the preparation is to select a logo for the run t-shirt. The council does this by holding an art contest for all county youth. They received many great entries from the schools and a winning design was chosen at the council meeting on March 18.
Cattral Patterson of Skamokawa drew the winning entry this year. He will receive first prize of $10 and a t-shirt with his design. The second place winner was Cheyenne Kennedy of Cathlamet; she will receive art supplies. Third place was a tie between Zachery Bair and Lily Kolditz both of Cathlamet; they will also receive art supplies.
Honorable mentions for great entries went to: Jack Leavitt, Trynity Mendez, Tenneal Harris, Shona Heywood, Parker Patching, Kathryn Cocca, Cole Hauff, Jacob Hammond, Keely Scott, Macie Elliott, Jonathyn Berry and Ricky Tieje.
All entries received will be posted at the run registration area at Skamokawa Vista Park. The run takes place on the Julia Butler Hansen National Game Refuge in Skamokawa.
The Council has added a dog division this year. You can add $1 to your entry and have your dog compete for awards. Entry forms may be picked up at several area stores or the WSU Extension office in Cathlamet. Organizers hope to see a large turnout.
