Sarah Lawrence is new fair manager
Wahkiakum County commissioners confirmed Tuesday the selection of Puget Island resident Sarah Lawrence as manager of the Wahkiakum County Fair.
She will replace Kathleen Morgain who has held the position for one year but is leaving to take a media job based in Astoria.
Bill Coons, fair board chair, said the board had five applicants for the job and found three of them well qualified. A three-person hiring committtee, Coons, Mike Howell and Mike Mouliot, unanimously recommended Lawrence, and fair board executive committee memebers agreed.
A native of Eugene, Ore., Lawrence earned a bachelor degree in communications at Portland State University in 1988. She spent the past decade in London, England, working in the fields of public relations, advertising, marketing and event management. She said she and her husband decided to move to the United States and raise a family in a rural community.
Coons said Morgain is on the job through April, so she and Lawrence will be able to work together to make a smooth transition.
