T-wolves, Trojans beat Lady Mules

The Wahkiakum Lady Mules basketball had a rough week, losing two Central League games.

On Tuesday, the Mules traveled to Pe Ell and lost 63-35. The Trojans jumped to a 21-4 first quarter lead, and the Mules couldn't get back in the game.

Baylee Olsen led the Mule scoring with 11 points. Haylee Budd and Brieanna Olsen each scored eight, and Blaine Land and Maya Stanley each had four.

Budd had nine rebounds, Brieanna Olsen six, Sam Boyce five, Stanley four and Land and Baylee Olsen three each. Brieanna Olsen made four assists, and Land, back in action after a health related layoff, blocked two shots.

The Mules made 14 of 56 shots, 25 percent, and four of eight free throws, 50 percent. Pe Ell made 25 of 62 shots, 40 percent, and five of eight free throws, 63 percent.

In junior varsity action, Pe Ell edged the Mules 38-30. Hailey Quigley and Jessica Thomas each scored eight points for the Mules.


The Mules lost a fast paced game 73-65 to the visiting Morton-White Pass Timberwolves last Thursday.

The visitors raced to a 20-14 first quarter lead. The Mules rallied in the second quarter and, with hot shooting all around, pulled to a 36-32 lead just before halftime. The Timberwolves got a couple late baskets, and the first half ended in a 36-36 tie.

Morton-White Pass pulled ahead in the second half, outscoring the Mules 19-11 in the third quarter. The Mules couldn't get enough shots to fall down the stretch and lost 73-65.

Stanley led the Mule scoring with 21 points. Boyce added 13, Baylee Olsen 11, Brieanna Olsen 10, Budd and Brianne Helms four each, and Kaylee Bryant two.

Helms made five assists, and Boyce had 14 rebounds and four steals.

The Mules travel to Toutle Lake this Friday for a double header. The varsity boys and junior varsity girls will play at 5:45, and the varsity girls and junior varsity boys will play at 7 p.m. On January 18, the Mules entertain Winlock, and on January 20, Adna comes to Cathlamet.
