Other news from the Westend:

If you missed the community potluck and picnic last Saturday, at Johnson Park (old Rosburg school) you missed a wonderful afternoon. The weather was perfect, the food was plentiful and delicious, with games for everyone inside and out. Special thanks to Mary Stellar with her friends Tumbleweed, Thistle and Trillium from Donkey Holler, with her cart (that some say would make a great “paddy wagon” with Sheriff Dearmore riding shotgun), Joel Fitts on site with the ambulance open for inspection and at the ready, Thomas Hammonds with one of the fire trucks, the Burkhalter family’s Organic Valley Dairy for providing ice cream for dessert and all the volunteers for preparing for a fun day. Thank you also to everyone who attended this event and were able to enjoy a great day in the sun. We hope to see you again next year.

Another reminder that the annual Pig Roast/Campout that is usually held at this time of year on the property of Poul and Zenaida Toftemark will not happen this year. We look forward to resuming the event next year.

The Grays River Valley Center Library at Johnson Park will host a book sale on Friday, August 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. and on August 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We have some wonderful hard bound books, gently read at very reasonable prices. Come check them out, and support your local library and computer center. We look forward to seeing you.

August 6 is the date for Red Cross training on sheltering in place for the Johnson Park designation as an emergency shelter. The training will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week at the Rosburg Hall for a friendly meal and good conversation with like minded folks. Thanks to Pat Potter and her volunteer crew for this respite and for their efforts in making our seniors happy.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays the Rosburg Senior Community Lunches are served at the same location and are sponsored by CAP. Menus for the coming week are: Thursday, the 26th-lasagna, garlic bread, Caesar salad, sliced oranges and carrot cake; Tuesday, the 31st-turkey a la king over a biscuit, spinach salad and pineapple upside down cake.

Happy birthday to Kayti Nelson, Norma White, Richard Ellis, Danette Rogers, Ken Chapman, Chris Cary, Pat Nelson, Miriam Galbraith, Gene Strong, Diane Mattson, Shirley Herrold, Kyryn Jacot, Bryon Adair, Corina Lee, Brendan Wallace, Loretta Smalley, Alex Badger, Alissa Dorman, Jennifer Boggs and Katie Olson.
