Well, folks, we are now sitting on waterfront property once again. We could conceivably row straight across the field to the Covered Bridge but the current is such that it probably wouldn’t be such a good idea. Water is over the driveway to the tune of probably six feet and will go higher with the continuing rain, so we are in for a few days. The dogs love to go for walks in this weather as they pick the small critters out of the low branches of the trees, just like candy.

The wind is especially unnerving today, and likely there will be some problems on the roads. Hopefully everyone has prepared for this emergency, with plenty of supplies and food. Don’t forget your pets. We stocked up on our dogs (and cats) favorite treats—they get “pupsicles” (frozen hamburger patties) twice a day so they are happy. Be safe everyone.

News from Naselle:

No school on Thursday and Friday this week for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Sports calendar for the coming week in Naselle: Tuesday-high school boy’s basketball at Cathlamet at 5:45 p.m .; Wednesday-high school girl’s basketball with Wahkiakum in Naselle at 5:45 p.m. and middle school girl’s basketball at North Beach at 5:45 p.m. Go, Comets!

The Naselle Congregational Church located at 14 Parpala Road in Naselle is the site for the annual Martha’s Circle Bazaar, to be held on December 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A soup luncheon will be served at 11 a.m. featuring clam chowder or taco soup with dessert and a beverage for a suggested $6 donation. Come check out some of the local handiwork including rugs, crafts, baked goods, etc. Outside vendors will also be on hand with their specialties for sale.

The annual Finnish American Folk Festival Concert and Tour of Homes will be held December 9.

The concert will begin at 1 p.m. at the Historic Deep River Pioneer Lutheran Church, featuring the Naselle Kanteles, soloists Lisa Bighill and Karen Nelson, Cooley/Wolfe Singers & Ringers, and the Finn-Am Choir.

Anna Ehrlund will again tell the history of the church, which is over 100 years old, and has retained its original features. The concert will close with traditional Christmas carols.

Three local homes will be open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets will be available with maps included at the concert, the Hair Villa in Naselle, Finn Ware in Astoria, Radio Shack in Seaview, or any of the featured homes for $5 each, and will benefit the Finn-Am Fest. This year's homes, all in Naselle, include Roy and Shirley Herrold's home, at 3 Holm Lane, Arlan and Kathy Pellervo's home, at 40 N Valley Road, and the home of Gilbert and Catherine (Katie) Munro, at 3 Cassandra Lane. Featured homes will be marked by signs and balloons.

A variety of soups will be served by the Priscilla Circle of Naselle Lutheran Church, 308 Knappton Rd, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Delvin and I had a great time at the free Friday night movie at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. We settled in the comfy chairs with our coffee, popcorn and candy for a wonderful movie that I had never seen entirely through. Casablanca was the feature that night. Several other couples and singles showed up and made for a good time. Movies are shown every Friday evening at 7 p.m. and are free. Concessions are available as well and an intermission is planned in the middle of each feature. Check it out. For more information on the next movie, you can call the Grays River Valley Library/Computer Center at 465-2310.

I want to say a hearty welcome home to Zenaida Toftemark. She has been on an extended stay in the Philippines taking care of the adoption process for their newest addition to their family. It’s good to have you home, my friend, and hopefully it won’t be much longer until your son will be home with you and Poul.

Another welcome home to tanned and toned Hawaiian vacationer Penny Gregory. She has been basking in the sun with her parents and sister for two weeks while poor Alan was out hunting for meat for the freezer. He did OK as well, with a nice bull elk. I hope you got Penny’s truck cleaned out.

Senior lunches are served at the Rosburg Hall three days a week. Nutritious meals with a great group of friends and neighbors. The Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets at noon on Wednesdays for a lunch prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew, and CAP sponsors lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
