On Saturday, the Mule Wrestlers began their season at the Mark Morris Three Rivers Classic Invite. First tournaments and first matches are destined to be filled with the jitters and are a great opportunity to establish a team's starting base line. The Three Rivers Classic proved to be a solid and challenging platform from which to start. With perennial powerhouse teams such as Castle Rock, Mark Morris, RA Long, Kalama and La Center there the Mules had a long hill to climb coming in as the only 2B school.

Without making excuses for early season jitters, a couple of “I knew better moments” and “WOW am I out of shape!” the Mules came together with a solid performance. Two Mules earned the honor of wearing the brand new “Finals Singlet” in the evening. Junior Mason Mackey at 145 lbs and sophomore Luke Stacey at 132 lbs each took second.

Because of this tournament's format, first round losses put wrestlers in a position where fourth place was the best they could end the day. Junior Jesus Crawford (132), sophomore Alex Johnson (138), junior Nate Cothren (160) and sophomore Trystan Mendez all lost only their first match on the day; leaving the Mules with four fourth place finishers. Returning team captain and this tournament's lone senior for the Mules, Adam Vasion, started the day with two solid wins but was also caught in the complex bracketing system and ended up with fifth place on the day. Kody Vik and Brandon Burdick rounded out the rest of the team for the day.

The Mules' schedule from here includes December 8 at Warrenton and December 11 at Adna which will be the first league mix and match. The Mules will host the day-long Downriver Challenge Tournament on December 15.
