Even though the temperatures have been really cold, the sunshine has been a welcome sight. We should see more of it in the next few days according to the weather news. Here’s hoping.

Sports coming up this week for the Naselle-Grays River Valley School: Saturday, varsity boys basketball at Lacey at 4 p.m. and varsity girls basketball at Lacey at 5:45 p.m .; Tuesday, varsity boys basketball at Raymond at 5:40 p.m., middle school boys basketball at Valley at 5:45 p.m .; Wednesday, middle school boys basketball with South Bend in Naselle at 5:45 p.m. Go Comets!

Enjoy the Variety Show at the Naselle School on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Naselle Commons. Check out all of our talented community members and have a fun-filled evening.

There will be no school on Monday due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Don’t forget the next community meeting of the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District to talk about the replacement bond on January 23 at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Take a break from cooking on Sunday afternoon. The Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park is the site for a Chili, Chowder and Chicken Noodle Soup supper from 1-4 p.m. Included on the menu will be chili, cornbread, chicken noodle soup and clam chowder with crackers. This meal is being served to familiarize the community with all the new things being done with your activity center and to let you know how much the advisory board appreciates your use of the facilities. There is something for everyone to enjoy at the facility. Donations will gladly be accepted for this meal.

Tickets are now available from Johnson Park advisory board members for the spaghetti dinner at Johnson Park to be held March 9. Tickets cost $10 and include spaghetti, salad, French bread, dessert and a beverage. Beer and wine will be available. Proceeds will benefit the Grays River Valley Center.

This fundraiser dinner will include a silent auction with some very nice items up for bid. If you have something you would like to donate for the auction, please call Penny Gregory at 465-2775.

The Grays River Valley Library and Computer Center hours have changed. The new hours are Mondays 3-7 p.m., and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 1-5 p.m.

The sewing center at the Grays River Valley Center is really being utilized. The local quilt group meets there on Thursday afternoons and is giving the donated sewing machines a workout. It’s wonderful to drive into the park and see so many cars parked outside and folks using the building.

The exercise equipment is also getting a workout from many community members including some of the Sheriff’s deputies. Come on in and check out the Nautilus machine, treadmill and other equipment available. When you’re done working out, finish up with a game of pool.

Free Friday night movies at the Grays River Valley Center are a big hit. Every week features great movies, concessions, and good company. The Advisory Board will be purchasing a larger screen so we will be able to show newer movies. We look forward to having dinner and movie nights, pizza and movie nights and even some special occasion events where we will show movies of your choice. The free movies are shown every Friday night at 7 p.m. Call 465-2310 for more information.

Senior lunches are served at the Rosburg Hall three days a week. The Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets at noon on Wednesdays and lunch is prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew. Tuesdays and Thursdays meals are sponsored by CAP and served by volunteers as well.

My deepest sympathies go out to Lilah Lincoln and her family on the recent passing of her mother.

My husband continues to improve after his stroke. He is now able to get in and out of our hot tub, thanks to our neighbor Steve Ramsay. We have a nice deck with a hand rail to help him maneuver himself into and out of the tub. Thanks Steve.

My uncle David Hammonds has been in California for the past few weeks with his family, and is due home by the end of this week. Hopefully he will bring warmer weather with him. Welcome home, Uncle.
