Cathlamet FFA has been busy

This year’s Cathlamet FFA Chapter has been very busy this school year.

They kicked off the beginning of the year by attending the state livestock judging contest in Puyallup on September 15. Attendees were Tarah Wisner, Mya Kirzy, Alex Mellis, Dylan Hansen and Zach Calvert with a team placing of fifth.

Their next event was an Ag Night in which students involved in the FFA brought their parents to the school to discuss the plans of the FFA. This took place September 25 and burgers were cooked by the FFA officers, with over 40 students and parents in attendance.

On September 26 the Blue and Gold Tour took place at Hudson Bay High School with participants Chase Grasseth, Greg Martin, Colton Mace and Jack Leavitt, who participated in various leadership activities geared towards the upcoming school year.

On September 28 the FFA took four participants to Sequim for trapshooting. Participants were Greg Martin, Colton Mace, Tyler Gorley and Jack Leavitt, with a team placing of third.

On October 5, Toutle Lake hosted a logging rodeo with Cathlamet attendees Chase Grasseth, Colton Mace, Kael McKinley, Cattral Patterson, Tyler Gorley, Ryan Quigley, Alex Mellis, Patrick Grove and Simeon Goldinov.

Chase placed second in the log chop, second in the 2-man buck, second in the 1-man buck, fourth in the chainsaw competition, and fourth in the pole climb, receiving the third overall placing.

Colton placed first in the log chop, second in the pole climb, second in the chain saw competition, second in the 2-man buck and fourth in the 1-man buck, placing second overall.

Kael placed fifth in the log throw. Cattral placed fourth in the log throw. Tyler placed third in the log throw. Ryan placed first in the match split and fifth overall. Alex Mellis got fifth in the ax throw. Patrick Grove placed fourth in the log chop. Simeon Goldinov received third in the log chop.

Future events include District Leadership Day at the Castle Rock Fairgrounds. The chapter will also participate in the first forestry competition at Satsop on October 22.
