Lady Mules dump South Bend 60-31

December 11, 2013

The Wahkiakum Lady Mules started their basketball season at home December 4 and wasted no time pulling ahead and ultimately beating the South Bend Indians, 60-31.

Four starters scored in double digits, and Tori Wegdahl had a double double, picking up 12 rebounds to go with her 16 points. She also had one steal. Baylee Olsen led scoring with 17 points and had six rebounds, six assists and five steals. Sam Boyce scored 12 and had six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Kaylee Bryant added 10 points with eight rebounds and two assists. Maya Stanley tossed in five points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals. Jessica Thomas brought down six rebounds.

“We were sharing the ball well,” Coach Rob Garrett said, “We’ve been working on getting the ball up the court quickly. Maya (Stanley) is making really good decisions and it allows everyone else to make easy buckets. It was an all around great game, great team effort.”

The Mules were 13 of 18 from the free throw line. Shooting was a little rough on Wednesday as the team’s average was 20 percent from three point range and 30 percent inside the three point line.

Grace Peacock and Shelby Abbott are currently on the injured list with a broken pinky and a rolled ankle.

The Lady Mules traveled to Winlock on Wednesday. Their next home game will be on Friday against Napavine.
