Port 2 moves ahead with County Line park project

December 31, 2013

Motivated Port District No. 2 commissioners gave the go ahead to Prestegard Construction to begin work at County Line Park in order to be ready for a spring opening.

Port commissioners met with Port Manager Janet Bryan and counsel Tim Hanigan December 26 to iron out details and accept a bid for the work that needs to be completed at the park.

“The bids are all within about $4,000 of each other,” Commissioner Brian O’Connor remarked.

“They are all good, competent, qualified people to do the job,” Commissioner Kayrene Gilbertsen added. “It’s not like they are an unknown.”

The commissioners agreed to accept the lowest bid of $66,939.17 from Doors & More. O’Connor was authorized to check on licensing and to sign the contract. However, Doors & More decided to decline and the contract went to the second lowest bid, Prestegard Construction.

O’Connor shared some concerns with the board.

“There are other things that we know we have to do that are not on that bid,” he said. “We’re going to need electrical upgrades. The water is not potable. We’re going to need a water softener.”

The board agreed to move forward with a water softener and O’Connor was authorized to set that in motion.

“The community really seems to be behind us on this project,” Gilbertsen said.
