This week’s sports calendar for the Naselle Comet teams is as follows: Thursday, January 16-girls basketball with Ocosta in Naselle at 7 p.m .; Friday, January 17-JV boys basketball, girls basketball and varsity boys basketball all at Valley beginning at 5 p.m .; Tuesday, January 21-girls basketball at TRCHS at 5:30 p.m., and boys basketball at TRCHS at 7 p.m., middle school boys basketball with Ocosta in Naselle at 5:45 p.m .; Wednesday, January 22, middle school boys basketball at Oyehut at 5:45 p.m. Go Comets!

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School Board will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 21, at 6:30 p.m.

There will be no school on Monday, January 20.

Please join the Appelo Archives Center in celebrating with loggers, truck drivers and operators as they gather once again on Saturday, January 25 at the Center to commemorate the Fourth Annual Old Time Loggers Reunion. This year the Center will honor two locals, Ed Wirkkala and Martin Nygaard. Each has a long history of working in the woods.

The gathering will be held at the Appelo Archives Center at 1056 State Route 4 in Naselle. It is expected to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with coffee and refreshments provided. I heard another cute crow story from the Mochas and More Coffee shop in Naselle. It seems that the crow family that has adopted the business as their own is still having problems with teenage crow, Robie. He has really taken a liking to the blueberry muffins that Laura makes. Being a smart bird he can pick out a blueberry muffin in a flash and snatch it away to leave only the wrappings. Laura thinks that Rob and Robette (parent crows) have produced a “juvenile delinquent bird” with a penchant for blueberries.

What are you doing right after church this Sunday? What are you preparing for lunch (or dinner)? Why not join the Johnson Park Advisory board at the Grays River Valley Center for our Second Annual 3 C’s Chowdown***Chili, Chowder and Chicken Noodle Soup event from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Bring the family and enjoy some delicious home cooked food. Donations to this event will help with the more efficient gym light retrofit, in an effort to make the center more user-friendly.

During the winter months, the heating bills and utility costs are astronomical for the old Rosburg school building, but thanks to the generosity of our community we have barely gotten by so far. We are looking for ways to fund a new heating and utility system that will encompass the entire building including the hallways. If you have any ideas or suggestions for us, please come to our monthly meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. Are there any companies out there with experimental ideas for energy efficient heating? Willing to donate a heat system or labor for one? Remember, we receive no money from the county or from taxes. Thanks in advance for any help with this ongoing dilemma.

Free Friday night movies continue at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. The show starts at 7 p.m. Bring the family and enjoy a good movie for free with concessions available as well. Kid friendly movies are shown on the first and fourth Friday of each month.

You may have noticed that the Rosburg Store was not open on Sunday and Monday of this past week. That will be the case from now on, closed on Sunday and Monday and the new hours for the rest of the week will be Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are still serving hot food, home made pies and bread, burgers, deli sandwiches, pizza, and more.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets at the Rosburg Hall each week for a home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew. Lunch is served at noon.

CAP sponsored senior lunches are served on Thursdays at the same location. Menus for the next two weeks include: Thursday, January 16-chicken Romesco, scalloped potatoes and Swiss chard; Thursday, January 23-stuffed pork, vegetable paella and carrot and raisin salad.

Please support these two venues which allow our seniors to enjoy a nutritious meal, some socializing and generally a nice outing. It also helps support the Rosburg Hall.
