To the rescue

March 12, 2014

Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife Agent Pat Anderson, left, and Kevin Brown of Hancock Forest Management, hold a bald eagle they captured last Friday. According to Dan Cothren, Hancock's security supervisor, the Hancock office received a call reporting the injured eagle was lying along a logging road in the Brookfield area where Jim Crow Creek empties into the Columbia. Cothren,

Brown and Anderson went to the site and spotted the eagle on an islet in the marsh at the creek's mouth. Brown put on waders, took the landing net, approached the bird from its backside and netted it. The men thought that the bird had been injured in a fight with another eagle. Anderson took the bird to a raptor treatment center near Astoria where it is recovering. Photo by Dan Cothren.
