News from Naselle:

Congratulations to an outstanding student, Chloe Zimmerman, who received a perfect math score on the SAT test. She had a total score of 2240 and is a potential National Merit Scholarship recipient. Chloe is the daughter of Tom and April Zimmerman of Grays River. She is a very active member of her class and of her community, and is a delightful young lady. You make everyone proud, Chloe, and I’m sure you will accomplish everything you set out to do. Best of luck.

Lots of last minute things going on before graduations begin. The Naselle-Grays River Valley Athletic Awards will be given on Wednesday, the 4th at 6 p.m. The state track meet will be held in Cheney this coming weekend and the Naselle Comets will send three participants to compete. Best of luck to them. This weekend is also the senior trip for the Class of 2014, so I hope they have an awesome time and return safely with memories for a lifetime.

Mark your calendars for Naselle high school graduation, which will take place on Saturday, June 7th at 4 p.m. Eighth Grade move-up will be held on Tuesday, the 10th at 6p.m. and kindergarten graduation will be on Wednesday, the 11th at 6 p.m. The last school day will be on June 13th and students will be released at 12:30 p.m.

Here’s an update on a couple of new programs going on at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. Are you looking for a place to enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a pastry or cookie in the morning? Kim DeJesus is opening up the Library/Computer Center by 8 a.m. with a fresh brewed pot of coffee if you are interested. The coffee and the conversation are free, but donations are gladly accepted. So far she is having a good turnout, especially since the Rosburg Store and the Grays River Café have closed. Check them out.

If you are interested in some help with sewing or learning a particular technique, the sewing room is now going to be open on Thursdays from 10 a.m., and Donna Moody will be the person to contact for more information. Donna is a wonderful, talented seamstress and you could learn a lot from her. Thank you, Donna for sharing your talent.

There seems to be a lot of folks looking for their “roots” in our area. Now’s your chance to learn from the ground up from some people who have been there and are now willing to share their knowledge and ideas with you. If you are looking for a Genealogy Support Group, here it is. If you are interested, please call Judy Durrah at 465-2331, and a date and time will be set up to meet at least once a month.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets at the Rosburg Hall each week for a home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew. Coming menus for the next two weeks include: June 4th-tuna and egg salad sandwiches, cole slaw, pork and beans, chips and dessert (sounds like a picnic lunch to me); the 11th- soup and mini salad bar, hot rolls and dessert. Come join a great bunch of folks and enjoy a good meal.

On Thursdays, a senior lunch is also served at the above location and is sponsored by CAP. Lunches are served at noon.
